General Writing/Task 1: Business letter

[Task 1] You recently stayed at a hotel and were unhappy with the service.

by IELTS 2023. 7. 14.

You recently stayed at a hotel and were unhappy with the service. Write a letter to the hotel manager to complain about the issues you encountered. In your letter:

  • Describe the reason for your stay and the duration.
  • Explain the problems you experienced during your stay.
  • Suggest some solutions or improvements the hotel can make.

Write at least 150 words.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I received during my recent stay at your hotel. I checked in on the 10th of July and stayed for three nights in room 215.

Firstly, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. The bathroom had dirty towels, and the floors were dusty. Additionally, the room was not adequately serviced, as I had to call housekeeping multiple times to request fresh towels and toiletries.

Secondly, the noise level in the hotel was excessive, particularly during the night. There were loud conversations and slamming doors, which disturbed my sleep and made my stay unpleasant. Despite complaining to the front desk, the issue persisted throughout my entire stay.

To improve the situation, I suggest that you pay closer attention to the cleanliness of the rooms and ensure regular housekeeping visits. It would also be helpful to remind guests of the hotel's noise policy and take measures to enforce it, such as placing signs or providing earplugs.

I hope you take my feedback into consideration and make the necessary improvements to enhance the quality of service at your hotel. I look forward to a positive response and a more satisfactory experience during future visits.

Yours faithfully,

[Your Name]
